Summer Field Season 2018

This past summer was my fourth field season with the Kluane Red Squirrel Project! This summer the squirrel population was facing some tough times with limited food resources. As a project, we will continue monitoring the population through this drop in food. These booms and busts in white spruce cones are typical of a masting species and the data collected this year will add even more data to understanding how a variable environment influences behavior, physiology, and life history.

This summer I collected more maternal behavior data but also piloted some new methods for collecting milk from red squirrels! I'm very excited about this side project and the directions it may lead. Stay tuned for more information!
